Ayahuasca Microdosing | How Does it Work?

Microdosing (also written Micro-dosing) typically involves the daily or regular use of a substance — for a certain period — in very small quantities in order to encourage or maintain beneficial therapeutic effects or experiences this particular substance brings about.

Additionally, Microdosing can be a gentle way to explore a (psychedelic) substance. In the case of Ayahuasca, it can be a safer way to get to know the effects of the brew, instead of immediately starting off with several ceremonies in an Ayahuasca retreat.

One of the other advantages of Microdosing is that it can be done without the presence of a Shaman or Curandero. Mind, however, that it’s advised that a full dose should always be taken under the guidance and protection of a Shaman, Ayahuasquero, or other person proficient with handling Ayahuasca.

Microdosing with Ayahuasca is usually done in two ways; only using the Ayahuasca vine (the Banisteriopsis caapi plant), which is the more common way of Microdosing, or using the mixture of the Ayahuasca vine and a DMT-containing plant such as the Psychotria viridis shrub.

Ayahuasca Microdosing can be used to treat conditions like anxiety, depression, or emotional trauma, but also to reconnect to the spiritual insights one has experienced during an Ayahuasca ceremony. It may also be used simply to boost one’s mood and creativity, or to revitalize and energize body and mind.

Mind that Ayahuasca Microdosing may result in the same effects as when taking the full dose, and as such one should always take the usual precautions, contraindications, and risks of using Ayahuasca into account. However, the effects and risks can usually be lessened by either reducing the dose or by taking a break.
