Dhumapana is an Ayurvedic treatment procedure by which one inhales medicated herbal smoke. It can also be used as a treatment as part of the Dinacharya daily self care routine.

It’s thought that the treatment can alleviate or cure a range of conditions that manifest “above the shoulder” region, that is, it mainly addresses head and neck disorders, but also cough, voice disorders, bad breath, respiratory diseases, and hair diseases.
Some other specific goals are to clear excessive secretions of the nasal, eye, and ear region, heal nasal infections, alleviate headaches, clear drowsiness, and stimulate the endocrine and nervous system.
The medicated smoke should be taken through the nose (per nostril) and exhaled by the mouth.
