CBD and THC Infused Coffee - What to Expect

Coffee with CBD (Cannabidiol) and/or THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) added to it has become a popular beverage, and there’s a lot of buzz going around about the benefits of doing so. But how does it work, and what is the effect of THC and CBD in coffee?

Let’s start with coffee. The active ingredient in coffee is caffeine. It’s the compound that makes us feel alert, focused, and awake. Nevertheless, caffeine can also make us feel anxious, increase our heart rate, and make us feel jumpy. In fact, some people are extremely sensitive for caffeine, and already a little bit of coffee can make them “bounce.”

However, CBD-infused coffee seems to give us the alertness from the caffeine in coffee (the thing we want), but without the anxiety, jitters, and jumpiness (the things we don’t want). In general, it’s thought that adding CBD to coffee gives us the benefits of coffee, but without the unwanted side effects, that is, CBD would mitigate the “darker sides” of caffeine.

As for adding THC to coffee, it’s thought that it can enhance the alertness coffee brings, and cause a kind of creative euphoria, a better “high” and better mood, while still giving a soothing and relaxing effect.

In any case, there are quite a lot of scientists who think that it may not be such a good idea, or at least that the so-called mitigation benefits are purely anecdotal, but for the moment CBD-infused and/or THC-infused coffee remains a very popular Cannabis drink.

The bottom line is that researchers still don’t know what exactly the interaction between caffeine and Cannabis is. Moreover, the effects of (varied doses of) CBD, THC, caffeine, and its combination vary significantly from person to person.
