Escort services and Girlfriend Experience services — the latter also known as GFE services — provide paid companionship and/or entertainment, and depending on the competencies and offerings of the professional involved, both types of services may include non-sexual and/or sexual services.

Escort professionals (also known as escorts, call-girls, call-boys, or companions) may work for an escort agency or alternatively work independently, and provide a range of sexual and/or non-sexual services, such as companionship for shorter or longer duration, conversational services, dinner companionship, male-for-male companionship, female-for-female companionship, travel partners on holidays or business trips, sexual companionship, erotic massages, or BDSM, kink, and fetish play, and so on.

Escorts typically meet with their client at the client’s house or hotel room (which is called an outcall service), or at the escort’s place (called incall service), or somewhere in public such as in a museum, restaurant, etc. Some escorts may also offer Girlfriend Experience (GFE) or Boyfriend Experience (BFE) services, which involves the simulation of an erotic and/or romantic relationship through which they provide a more emotional experience for the client.

In fact, BFE or GFE services involve a more personal, intimate, intellectual, and emotional interaction than traditional escort services. Through GFE/BFE services, escort services are brought on a different/higher plan, offering a kind of holistic companionship that includes a more elaborate (albeit simulated) emotional connection.

Thus, BFE/GFE services may be part of the services an escort provides. Nevertheless, BFE/GFE services may also be offered by erotic massage parlors, brothels, strip clubs, erotic service providers, independent sex workers, cuddle therapists, surrogate partners, or specialized BFE/GFE professionals, and not only by escorts.

For instance, a BFE/GFE experience may be offered by a professional massage practitioner in a massage parlor for the duration of a massage session, or by a BFE/GFE professional for the duration of a dinner in a restaurant, or perhaps by a Cuddle therapist at the client’s home just to watch television on the couch as a romantic couple.

One could say that BFE/GFE experiences can include any kind of activity done together with the client in a setting of “emotional closeness and intimacy,” which may include sexual companionship, while escort services are principally focused on offering some sort of sexual service, optionally accompanied by other types of services such as erotic massage, BFE/GFE services, dinner dating, party, sightseeing and/or travel companion, conversation companion, etc.

Still, all together you’ll see that both escort and BFE/GFE services tend to have “a sexual component” interwoven in their offerings, which often makes both types of services more or less fall in the definition of sex work. Keep in mind however that there are many examples of escorts and BFE/GFE professionals to be found who don’t offer any sexual service at all.
