Some of our eBooks are for free, which is a very important feature we offer for a number of reasons. Maybe one of the most important goals is that it gives our website visitors an idea of how we write. If they like our style, it can incite them to actually acquire one of our paid eBooks.

Another thing is that by getting a free eBook, a visitor goes through the same “logistic” process as if you would actually pay for a book. It means that you select the product, fill in a price (which would be USD $0 for a free product or more if you want), add it to the shopping cart, and then go to the checkout process. This gives trust in the delivery process, which is another aspect that helps people to easier decide to actually buy a book.

Of course, a customer also needs to fill out an email address when downloading the eBook, so that makes that we acquire a means to later on approach them with our Newsletter. The customer can then always decide to subsequently unsubscribe from the Newsletter, so no harm done there.

And finally, free eBooks are a means to make people possibly revisit our website. I mean, if you offer real value, that is, offer free books or free videos that are actually helpful — it increases the chances that a website visitor will come back for more. We think that it’s one of the key ways to come to more engagement and actually connecting to people.

So as you see, for us offering free eBooks is not just to get an email address from someone as a means to daily email-spam them with “cool offerings,” “amazing discounts,” and whatnot. It’s rather very functional to connect on a meaningful level with your website visitors. It’s about gaining trust and respect, offering value, and finally building a win-win relationship.
