The term Gender Dysphoria refers to the severe psychological discomfort or distress that results from incongruence between one’s (biological) sex assigned at birth and one’s actual gender identity.

Gender Dysphoria may involve several symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, self-neglect, impulsive and risky behavior, low self-esteem, and social isolation, typically because of body dissatisfaction. Mind that Gender Dysphoria cannot be treated trough “positive Talk Therapy.” However, it’s important to note that not all gender non-conforming individuals experience Gender Dysphoria.

People who experience Gender Dysphoria often want to change their bodies or bodies’ appearance through Gender Affirming Care, which could involve procedures such as Hormone Replacement Therapy, Gender Affirming Surgery, and/or Nonsurgical Gender Affirming practices.
