Within Tantric Sex, the Hands on Hearts Ritual (also called the Heart Breathing Ritual) entails sitting (cross-legged) in a way in which you face each other, while placing one hand on your own heart region (typically your left hand) on top of your partner’s right hand, and the other hand (your right one) on the heart region of your partner (who puts their left hand on top of yours).
The idea then is to carry out conscious and synchronized breathing exercises (“breathing into the heart space”), which is a form of Tantric Breathwork. It aims at cultivating love and intimacy, and exchanging benevolent, caring energy. It’s often combined with (or done after) Tantric Eye-Gazing.
The Hands on Hearts Ritual works with the Anahata Chakra (the Heart Chakra), which is located near the physical heart region.
Anahata Chakra, one of the seven main Chakras, is associated with balance, openness, purity, love, compassion, charity, cleanliness, inner healing, calmness, and serenity. It’s thought that Anahata enables us to make decisions “that follow the heart,” in accord with our higher, true self.
