Hospice care focuses on giving the best possible care (physically, emotionally and spiritually), quality of life, and comfort for people who have a life-limiting or life-ending illness.
People (or patients) nearing end of life, may experience pains, anxiety, insomnia, stress, loneliness, fear and depression, and gentle massage can provide a soothing and comforting effect when done with a spirit of compassion.
The massage therapist will need to know the exact nature of the illness of the patient to avoid further distress, of course, and in that sense proper assessment and subsequent contraindications and precautions need to be taken very much into account.
