An open and honest communication with the giver (the masseuse or masseur) before a Nuru Massage session is very important. In this phase, you get to know each other, and will discuss expectations, preferences, and possible emotional or physical concerns.
Reaching consent with the giver about what the limits and boundaries are within the Nuru session is likewise crucial to have a comfortable and pleasant experience. Think of topics like mutual touch, role switch (being the giver or receiver), genital touch, sexual release, and so on.
Maybe you can already talk before the actual session through phone or chat, but it may also be that you can only talk at the session location just before the massage starts.
It’s also advised to not eat at least two to three hours before a session. If possible, it’s also better to empty the bowels and bladder beforehand. Being well hydrated before the session (typically by drinking enough water) is important because you’ll most likely lose a lot of body fluids during the massage, which can give an uncomfortable feeling if not taken care of.
Make time for a session. That is, reserve at least half of the day, and preferably the whole day if possible. A thorough Nuru Massage session can take up to two hours, but you will also need to go to the studio or place of the masseuse/masseur (although they may also come to you), which takes time. After the session, you’ll need time to go home and rest, which is important to let body and mind calm down, to digest the work that was done, and recover.
Although you will typically take a shower or bath at the Nuru Massage location, it’s pleasant for the giver that you are already clean and fresh beforehand.
You may also take some things with you such as a towel, a bottle of water, condoms, deodorant, a disinfector, clean clothes, or whatever it is you think you would want to have with you at some point during your visit.
The session itself will always first start with a thorough introduction. That is, the practitioner will talk to you at least fifteen minutes up to half an hour (or even longer) before actually starting the Nuru session. Knowing what you need and want (or not need or not want) and knowing what you can handle physically and emotionally is very important. Besides that, one needs to get used to one another and feel a connection and trust.
Don’t hesitate to leave the session location if something doesn’t feel good. Just pay and leave; that’s much better than going through a disturbing or even traumatic massage experience.
