Most types of Nuru gel are water-soluble, which counts for ready-for-use Nuru gels and for those that are purchased in powder form. It means that they can easily be mixed with water to achieve the preferred consistency. Mind that the ready-for-use gels may be offered in a concentrated form to be mixed with (warm) water or alternatively they may be ready to be used as is.

Nuru gel is preferably applied warm — at about 40°C (104°F) — which is not only more pleasant and more sensual, but also gives a better slippery aspect when spread or poured on your bodies. Warming the gel can be done by placing a bottle or bowl of gel in a container with warm water or by using an electric massage gel warmer.

It depends on the duration of a Nuru Massage and on how much Nuru gel you spread on each other’s bodies, but it’s not uncommon to be needing 0.5 to 1 liter of Nuru gel for a session. In any case, Nuru gel is basically always generously used to achieve optimum full-body sliding and gliding.

Mind that, apart from your body, Nuru Massage also includes using the hands and forearms to give the massage or to spread the gel to optimally prepare the skin for smooth full-body contact. The many sliding and gliding motions in Nuru Massage additionally help spreading the gel evenly over the entire body.

Although most types of Nuru gel can be applied directly on the (dry) skin, the gel typically gives a better slippery result when the skin is wetted and damp beforehand (as in after a shower or bath). At any rate, if you bought Nuru gel — instead of making Nuru Gel yourself at home — the manufacturer would’ve added an instructions-of-use.

Some extra words of caution: if skin irritation occurs because of the gel, you should discontinue use and consult a professional healthcare provider. Be aware that Nuru gel may contain extra ingredients that can stain carpets, rugs, clothing, towels, sheets, and/or matrasses. In addition, be careful of Nuru gel spilling on the floor or in the bathroom; the surface can become very slippery, meaning that if you don’t pay attention or clean it up, you may slip, fall, and hurt yourself.
