Jin Shin Do® is a therapeutic massage modality aimed at deep relaxation, developed in the 1970s by Iona Marsaa Teeguarden.
It’s derived from Jin Shin Jyutsu (a gentle touch and acupressure technique) and combines elements of Japanese Acupressure, Chinese Acupuncture, Orgone Therapy and Segmental Theory from Wilhelm Reich, the Eight Extraordinary Vessels (Strange Flows), Qigong, principles of Ericksonian psychotherapy, and Taoist philosophy.
The clothed massage — typically applied on a massage table — applies deep finger pressure on specific acupressure points, and uses verbal body focusing techniques to help dearmour and release chronic tension and pains, balance Qi Life Force Energy, and improve vitality.
Jin Shin Do encourages a pleasant trance-like state, in which one can relax and move out of the head and into the body, while accessing feelings/emotions and inner wisdom.
The treatment is ultimately aimed at releasing physical and emotional tensions and traumas, and associated (psychosomatic) health conditions.
