Massage and bodywork therapies can or may be able to alleviate or heal a broad range of sexual disorders and dysfunctions, sometimes directly, but in most cases indirectly by treating underlying causes.

Typical underlying causes that can be tackled are, for instance, poor blood and lymph circulation, nerve insensitivity, physical tensions and contractions, body tissue adhesions, organ and skeletal misalignments or dislocations, hormonal imbalances, stress, anxiety, and emotional trauma.

Nevertheless, as sexual dysfunctions and disorders may be caused by either physical, medical, mental, environmental, nutritional, psychological, or emotional factors, or by any combination of the factors just named, certain massage or bodywork therapies are better equipped than others in dealing with particular conditions.

Some of the characteristic types of bodywork modalities that can address sexual dysfunctions include Yoga, Sexercise, physical exercise, mindfulness meditation, breathwork, Tai Chi, and Chi Kung (Qigong).

Appropriate massage treatment modalities can be found among a variety of specialized therapies, which generally belong to the group of abdominal massages, fertility massages, genital massages, postnatal massages, Tantric and Taoist massages, and sensual erotic massages.

An important point of attention is that treatments usually need to be repeated for a while before noticeable results will be achieved. In fact, it’s very rare to resolve (sexual) health issues in just one massage or bodywork session.

Moreover, massage and bodywork therapies are just one type of approach to healing; one also needs to take other healing disciplines into consideration, may it be as the sole treatment or as a complementary treatment. Think, for instance, of herbal medicine, counseling, psychotherapy, conventional medicine, pharmaceutical medication, and/or surgery.
