When the baby is still in the womb it cannot be massaged really, but there’s an opportunity there for the future mother to already bond on a deeper level with her unborn child.
The mother-to-be can regularly massage or caress her abdominal area gently; the baby will feel this. It’s safe to do this after the first three months of pregnancy.
Talking and singing is also a perfect way to let the baby get used to a relaxing and calming moment and bond with the mother. This, for instance, is a technique used in the traditional Japanese Nursery Rhyme Massage to prepare the baby on massage work after it’s born.
Prenatal Yoga, which includes gentle stretching and breathing exercises, is another way for a pregnant woman to relax her body and mind, and will have a calming, comforting effect on the unborn baby.
