Baby Massage in Russia is a very common practice; it usually starts after the first month in the newborn’s life, and goes up to when the baby is about one year old.
Moreover, in Russian hospitals, it’s common to teach parents how to massage their babies. The idea is that Baby Massage increases blood circulation, stimulates the nervous system of the baby (a very important concept behind massage in Russia), and develops and strengthens muscles, but also the baby’s mental development.
The Russian Baby Massage is a quick, dynamic full body massage, and includes light brushing strokes with the fingers over the baby’s skin, barely using pressure.
Additionally, the child is massaged i.e. rubbed in circular motions with the pads of the fingers. The treatment takes about ten to fifteen minutes.
