Of the ten primary Thai Massage Sen Sib Energy Lines, eight can be found in the face and head. Seven of these Sen Lines have their endpoints (termination points) in this area, which are considered principal acupressure points, besides of having an important overall stimulation function for the specific Sen Line they belong to.
In fact, these seven Sen Lines — Ittha, Pingkhala, Lawusang, Ulangka, Sahatsarangsi, Thawari, and Sumana — address the majority of our sensory functions and their respective sensory organs, being smell (the nose), hearing (the ears), seeing (the eyes), and taste (the tongue).
At any rate, for such a small area as the head (compared to the rest of the body) there’s quite a lot going on there, and that’s why giving plenty of massage and acupressure attention to the head and face is certainly not a luxury. In addition, a Thai Face & Head Massage can be very pleasant and relaxing for the receiver.
But let’s discuss the chart (the lead image of this post), and explain the Sen Lines, the various Sen Extensions, and the Sen Endpoints that run through the area. If you like to know more details about a particular Sen Line, just follow the links in the sections below.
Sen Sumana
Sen Sumana (S1) is considered the most important Sen Line in Thai Massage. It’s endpoint is not mentioned in the chart (map) because it’s at the tip of the tongue inside the mouth. Mind that some Thai Massage lineages place Sumana’s endpoint at the base of the tongue.
However, the Sen Sumana Main Line continues as the Sumana Extension Line (S1-E). It starts at the tip of the tongue, follows the midline of the face, over the mouth, nose, forehead, and crosses the head to the backside and then descends along the neck.
Thus, although the Sumana main line is not manipulated during a facial or cranial treatment session, its extension line in the face and the rest of the head contains several important acupressure points and is treated extensively.
Sen Ittha
The Sen Ittha Main Line (S2) comes from the left side of the back, crosses the head, and ends at the left nostril. Depending on the Thai Massage lineage it’s endpoint (E1) terminates either inside the left nostril or just below the left nostril.
Departing from the Sen Ittha Endpoint (E1), the line continues as Sen Ittha Extension Line (S2-E) going downwards to finally reach the navel.
Sen Pingkhala
The Sen Pingkhala Main Line (S3) comes from the right side of the back, crosses the head, and ends at the right nostril. Depending on the Thai Massage lineage it’s endpoint (E2) terminates either inside the right nostril or just below the right nostril.
Departing from the Sen Pingkhala Endpoint (E2), the line continues as Sen Pingkhala Extension Line (S3-E) going downwards to finally reach the navel.
Sen Kalathari
Sen Kalathari runs with two extension lines (S4-E) through the area, both in the face and at the back of the head. At the back of the head it runs next to Ittha and Pingkhala. In the face it runs between Sen Lawusang and Sen Sahatsarangsi and between Sen Ulangka and Sen Thawari. Sen Kalathari has no endpoints in this region.
Sen Sahatsarangsi
Sen Sahatsarangsi Main Line (S5) runs at the left side of the face ending under the left eye at endpoint E4. Its extension S5-E continues from the eye up over the head and runs at the back of the head behind the left ear downwards the neck.
Sen Thawari
Sen Thawari Main Line (S6) runs at the right side of the face ending under the right eye at endpoint E3. Its extension S6-E continues from the eye up over the head and runs at the back of the head behind the right ear downwards the neck.
Sen Lawusang
Sen Lawusang Main Line (S8) runs at the left side of the face, going up from the neck and jaw, passing next to the left ear, and going around it to end just under the left ear at Sen Endpoint E5. Its Sen Extension Line (S8-E) starts at the tip of the left ear and runs to the top of the head.
Sen Ulangka
Sen Ulangka Main Line (S7) runs at the right side of the face, going up from the neck and jaw, passing next to the right ear, and going around it to end just under the right ear at Sen Endpoint E6. Its Sen Extension Line (S7-E) starts at the tip of the right ear and runs to the top of the head.
