Today, the distinction between community and interest groups, certification and accreditation bodies, or educational institutes and professional associations, and such, is rather thin, with one sometimes performing tasks the other does or should do, and vice versa.

We have therefore made no distinction in this article between certification and accreditation organizations, member or knowledge associations, examination or professional organizations, and so on.
