Shin So Shiatsu, or Shin-So, was developed by Sensei Tetsuro Saito, and is an evolution of the Zen Shiatsu style of Shizuto Masunaga.
The term Shin-So means “deeper level” and is a Meridian-based Shiatsu style, which addresses more than the standard twelve Meridians, that is, the so-called Extra Meridians, Divergent Meridians, Ocean Meridians, and the Cosmic Meridians are also included.
Shin So Shiatsu therapy is about sensing and tracing the Meridian pathways in the human body, to identify where energy imbalances occur, and to treat those imbalances with Shiatsu Massage techniques or other traditional Oriental treatments, such as Moxibustion, Cupping, or Acupuncture, among others.
Nevertheless, in Shin-So, the practitioner doesn’t memorize where the Meridians and Tsubo pressure points are, but “feel” their locations. To “sense” or “feel” the Meridians and energetic imbalances in the body, Tetsuro Saito uses the Finger Test Method. This technique was developed in the 1980s by the Japanese acupuncturist Dr. Tadashi Irie.
