In this post, you’ll find an overview of trainers, practitioners, and training schools in the island of Bali (Indonesia) that offer Tantra courses, events, classes, retreats, and/or workshops.

Yet, before we go the list we’ll first discuss what in general you can expect from a Tantra training or retreat, followed by looking at the unique situation of Bali with regard to Tantra and Hinduism.

Tantra Trainings and Retreats

Neo-Tantra (Sacred Sexuality) and Tantra education comes in quite many different formats, which may include individual, couples or group trainings, long-term year-round courses, punctual retreats and events, day or weekend courses, coaching and counseling sessions, online or live in-person classes, and so on.

You’ll find Tantra schools, academies, and institutes that offer a broad study curriculum, but also a large number of individual Tantra gurus, professionals, coaches, and therapists who only offer training in specific Tantric treatment modalities and techniques.

The field of topics is very large — for instance, Tantra training may cover Lingam Massage or Yoni Massage, Tantric concepts, philosophy and spirituality, mantras and chanting, semen retention techniques, Tantric De-Armouring, intimacy and relationship coaching, breathwork and pranayama, Kundalini Yoga, Tantric rituals and ceremonies, Tantra Yoga, Tantric Yoga Teacher training, Lingam Worshipping, and Tantric Sex Education, just to name a few of possible fields of attention.

What’s more, the trainings offered are often a mix of different Tantra topics, not seldom complemented with techniques or methods from other domains, such as Bioenergetic Analysis, Somatic Therapy, BDSM, Taoist Sexual Practices, or Sex Therapy. In addition, the focus of Tantric trainings may be rather Left-Hand Tantra or Right-Hand Tantra embarking on different ways and approaches of engaging into Tantra.

Tantra and Hinduism in Bali

Bali has quite a unique situation among the Indonesian islands, because Indonesia as a whole predominantly adheres to the Muslim religion (about 87%), while Bali is a notable exception where about 88% of its people identify as Hindu, only 8% as Muslim, 3% as Christian, and about 1% as Buddhist.

Mind that Indonesia has around 6,000 inhabited islands out of a total of 17,000+, so it’s really something extraordinary. Now, because Hinduism is the predominant religion in Bali, it also makes sense that historically seen Indian Yogic and Tantric practices have a quite a presence.

Another thing about Bali is that it’s one of these places in the world where alternative and complementary healing therapies and training is heavily concentrated, just like, for instance Chiang Mai and Koh Phangan in Thailand, Rishikesh, Goa, and Auroville in India, and Costa Rica in Central America. People from all over the world flock to these places to teach and to follow training courses and retreats, or to have therapeutic treatments.

In Bali, you’ll find local Tantra and Yoga trainers, communities, and establishments that have a fixed presence on the island, but you’ll also find punctual events in the form of training retreats from non-local i.e. foreign Yoga and Tantra teachers.

Some providers are local, but others are foreign trainers (the latter we’ve mentioned because they often give education in Bali).
