Testicle Protection in Sports and Vigorous Activities

The testicles are located in the scrotum outside of the body, and as such they don’t have the natural protection of bones or muscles.

So, if you play sports or participate in other vigorous activities it’s important to wear a protection for the testicles to prevent them of getting hurt.

Injuries to the testicles may occur during sports when you’re accidentally “kicked in the balls,” fall, or get hit by another person or object (for instance by a football or ice hockey stick). Trauma may also occur because the testicles may move or swing too much, for instance while running or jogging.

One type of protection is called an athletic supporter (a so-called athletic jockstrap). An athletic supporter does not have a hard plastic exterior, but is merely a cloth pouch that keeps the testicles close and tight to your body to avoid injury.

Another common type of protection is the testicle cup. Most protective cups are made out of hard plastic to protect the testicles. When purchasing a cup it is important to acquire the correct size or else it will not give the appropriate protection. Often the wearer will also use the athletic jockstrap over it to hold the cup in place.
