In Thai Massage we have this technique or “thing” we call the perfect fit. You can get perfect fit with your hands, with your feet, your elbows, your thumbs, actually with any part of the body you use giving a massage session.
It’s the seamless fit between your body and the body of the receiver. But what exactly is perfect fit? And how does it work?
Well, for instance take a chair and sit at a table. Lean with one of your elbows on the table, raise your arm (keeping your elbow on the table) and maneuver the inner side of your hand under your chin. Place your chin in the palm of your hand. You will notice that your hand will position itself in the most comfortable way possible (or your chin in your hand for that matter).
Or sit on a chair and lean with both your hands on your knees — same thing!
Perfect fit with the receiver is the optimal way of touching — fitting with his or her body, becoming one unit. Again and again. Every step in the massage, whether palming, thumbing, arm rolling or whatever. It’s an important factor in Thai Massage as it determines the smoothness of a session. The receiver experiences a natural feeling, a natural touch. A firm and full touch.
The perfect touch.
It is something you learn with time. With having experienced lots of different types of bodies. And it’s partly a certain kind of feeling, sensing, maybe even a talent. It will become natural, automatic. There comes a time you can just blindly and perfectly position your hands, feet and so on. In a flash. Intuitively.
And it will make all the difference.
