In this post, we’ll not so much look at individual genital treatment modalities, but more generally at what types of genital massage and bodywork treatments and therapies exist, what they aim at, what the typical benefits are, and what kind of techniques and methods are used.
On the whole, we can divide traditional genital treatments into four categories: supportive, restorative, healing, and relaxing treatments. As for the techniques and methods used, the most commonly applied are massage and other hands-on bodywork (with or without oils or gels), acupressure, acupuncture, Sitz Baths, steam baths, rites and rituals, and nutrition and diets.
Table of contents:
Supportive Treatments
Supportive genital treatments are typically those that stimulate one’s overall sexuality, sexual energy, sexual awareness, and sexual potency, promote fertility, or aid successful procreation.
Here we could think of massages and treatments such as Thai Karsai Nei Tsang Detox Massage and Tantric Yoni Massage, prenatal or pregnancy massages, but also consuming certain tonics, herbs or foods (aphrodisiacs), up to having warm and stimulating Sitz Baths or performing rituals like the Indian Ayurvedic Ritual of Conception called Garbhadhana Sanskara.
Restorative Treatments
Restorative treatments are often used after a woman’s delivery, that is, in the postpartum period. Typical goals of restorative treatments are to reduce swelling in the abdominal area, shrink back and re-position the uterus to the pre-pregnancy state, realigning pelvic organs, tightening abdominal muscles, reduce water retention, expel excessive winds, re-energize vitality, in short — restoration and recovery of body and mind.
Think of treatments like postpartum Sitz Baths, abdominal binding, steam baths, and massage. In Asia, we find many examples in traditional medicine systems, used until today, with treatments like Avagaha Sweda Sitz Baths in India, Rendam-rendam in Malaysia, Yu Fai in Thailand, Bengkung Abdominal Binding and Jamu Massage in Indonesia, to name some.
Note that restorative practices are not limited to the postpartum confinement period; restorative treatments may also be applied after trauma, surgery or injury, both for men and women.
Healing Treatments
Genital healing addresses many sexual and genital disorders or discomforts like vaginal odor, itching and irritations, vaginal inflammations, meno-pausal pelvic organs prolapse, hemorrhoids, fissures, fungal infections, excessive vaginal discharge, frequent and difficult urination, Premature Ejaculation (PE), problems having or maintaining a erection, prostate problems, menopause, fertility problems, ovarian cysts, impotency, painful menstruation or painful intercourse, and painful scar tissue, just to name a non-exhaustive list of examples.
Apart from straightforward physical healing, these kinds of treatments also promote emotional and sexual trauma release and healing associated with, for instance, suppressed and repressed sexuality and/or other non-sexual emotional traumas that settle in, crystallize, or materialize in the abdominal and pelvic region.
Techniques and methods used are predominantly massage and hands-on bodywork, acupressure, Sitz Baths, steam baths, and specific diets, all for the most part aiming at detoxification, tension release, re-positioning, unblocking and cleansing of the genital organs or blood vessels that nurture genital or other internal organs.
Typical examples of these kinds of genital treatments are Chi Nei Tsang and Karsai Nei Tsang, Thai Jabkasai, Thai Womblifting, Tantric Yoni and Lingam Massage, and Chinese Juagen Manhood Massage, among other examples.
Relaxing Treatments
And last but not least, the sensual and erotic treatments that aim at sexual tension release, often simply called Happy Ending massages. Here we predominately find massages done with oils and gels, such as Japanese Nuru Massage, G-Spot Prostate Massage, or Sensual Four Hands massages.
In any case, many offerings in this category are often called Tantric or Tantra massages of which some are authentic Tantric massages and many others really not.
We need to note also that one treatment category doesn’t necessarily exclude the other, that is, a therapeutic genital massage can finish off with plain sexual relaxation, and — by contrast — a treatment that starts sensually or erotically can end up in profound emotional or trauma release and healing.
