What is this Workshop about?
In this workshop we will teach you the theoretical and practical know-how of doing the official 18 Wat Pho Ascetic Self-Stretching Exercises (Reu-Si Datton or Thai Hermit Yoga).
These 18 Thai Yoga exercises, part of the study curriculum of the Wat Pho Medical Massage School in Bangkok, are standing exercises that can be done anywhere without a Yoga mat, in about 25 minutes. It’s an ideal stretching and strengthening workout to be done daily, before or after a sports activity, or whenever you feel like.
The set of 18 was designed by Wat Pho for the general public, covering work with and for the whole body and suitable for young and old. The idea is to supply the public with an easy to do, short series of exercises promoting fitness, flexibility and health.
In our workshop we work diligently: for instance, we comprehensively cover precautions & contraindications (per exercise), breathing techniques, what muscles and joints are engaged, how to use strength and power, and of course very detailed — with more than 150 clear photos — how exactly to do the exercises.
Examples of the kinds of pictures we use can be found in our posts Thai Yoga Reusi Dat Ton Exercise For Longevity and Rusie Datton Exercise – Relief of Chest and Waist Discomfort.
Additionally, we supply a convenient Quick Reference page (you can print it out, it’s only 1 page) with small pictures to easily remember the 18 sequences of exercises.
We’ve also included a video, which can be downloaded or streamed, showing you the entire set of exercises, to be used as a guide i.e. tutorial to learn the Wat Pho 18 exercises yourself.
