Lingam Steaming is a herbal steam bath for the male genitals. It could be considered the male version of Yoni Steaming, the latter also known as Vaginal Steaming.
In a limited sense one could equate Lingam Steaming with Penis Steaming, but the idea of using the word Lingam is that the treatment encompasses the entire male genital system, male sexual health, manhood and virility, and overall physical and emotional wellbeing.
It’s thought that the practice has a range of health benefits which includes promotion of sexual and genital health — such as better prostate function, alleviation of erectile dysfunction, and increased libido and fertility — increased skin health and detox of the genital area, and stress and anxiety relief.
In addition, it’s thought that Lingam Steaming tightens and tones the scrotum skin, eases discomfort of hemorrhoids, alleviates itch in the genital and anal area, and cleanses the penile, testicular and anal area of pathogens.
The beneficial function of Lingam Steaming is mainly due to warmth and heat of the herbal steam which stimulates the blood circulation in the pelvic and genital area (penile tissue, testicles, perineum, and prostate), the use of specific medicinal herbs and essential oils that penetrate the body, and the opening of pores of the skin that allows for elimination of impurities and toxins.
Commonly used herbs include Basil, Chamomile, Lavender, Rose, Ginger, Mugwort, Nutgrass, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, and Calendula, which depending on the herb have anti-inflammatory, calming, soothing, diuretic, antibacterial, antioxidant, or circulation stimulating properties.
The procedure of Lingam Steaming is rather simple: one sits (unclothed) in a cabin on a seat or stool with an opening over a pot filled with steaming water, which is infused with herbs and/or essential oils. To benefit optimally one can wear a gown or cover oneself with a blanket to better trap the steam. An average steaming session takes about thirty to forty-five minutes.
Some service providers add additional services such as a foot soak or foot bath that can be done simultaneously during the steaming session for an enhanced calming and relaxing effect while it also cleanses the feet. Like the Lingam steam, a warm foot bath will contain herbs, minerals, and therapeutic essential oils. In addition, you’ll often be able to listen to music of choice, and receive fresh fruits, healthy juices, wine or tea.
It’s not advised to do a Lingam Steam if one has an active herpes outbreak, fever, genital blisters or genital infection, hypersensitive skin, or cuts, tears and wounds near the perineal, anal and penile area.
In addition, there may be side effects and potential dangers which include allergic reactions to the herbs and essential oils used, second-degree burns if the steam is too close to the penis, testicles, anus or perineum, and the risk of infections if the materials used are not properly clean.
