Obsidian is formed from volcanic lava (magma) that quickly cools down, for instance due to rapid contact with water or cool air. Pure Obsidian rock is volcanic glass with a shiny, glass-like texture, typically dark, though the color varies from dark brown (due to iron oxide) to black.
In some Obsidian stones you may find small, white crystals creating white patches or blotches, and it may also contain patterns of gas bubbles remaining from the lava flow.
Historically, Obsidian rock has been used to make artifacts, such as decorative objects, jewelry (gemstone use), mirrors, arrowheads, blades or knives, for instance used to cut the umbilical cords (navel string) of newborns, or by contrast, used as a weapon. Even today, it’s still applied to make sharp knives and scalpels, and of course… to produce Yoni Eggs.
A Yoni Egg made of Obsidian is thought to radiate properties of firmness, grounding, insight, and clarity, and is associated with the Muladhara Chakra. According to Hindu Tantric concepts, the Muladhara or Root Chakra is one of the seven main Chakras and it’s considered the root of the Energy Body and of primary importance in so-called Kundalini awakening.
Obsidian rock is furthermore seen as a type of material that can be of help in releasing trauma and emotional blockages i.e. sexual de-armouring, by absorbing negative energies and channeling them away.
It’s also thought that Obsidian may aid physically to heal wounds, joint problems, inflammations and infections, and to detoxify the body.
